Why are there so many different seating arrangements and how are they determined?

There are many factors in establishing the way the theatre is seated for each show. The first consideration is the cost of the artist. Different configurations yield a different number of guests we can allow in. When the band is confirmed and we know how much money we have to pay them and our staff, we know how many people we NEED to get in the door to make it worth our while.

The next factor is the type of music it is. If it’s the kind of music that people will want to sit down for (Cowboy Junkies, Emmylou Harris, Leon Redbone etc.) then we set up our fully-seated arrangement and sell as many tickets as we have seats for. Up until recently we have not been able to efficiently offer assigned seating and our seated shows have been General Admission however, with the help of tickets.com we are now able to sell assigned seats which we expect will make those shows more enjoyable for our guests and easier to manage for our staff.

Another consideration we can’t ignore is the comfort of our guests. There are many shows that we could sell more tickets to and pack people in but we feel that crowding the venue does not create a comfortable or enjoyable atmosphere for patrons and it also makes it more difficult for our security staff to assure our guest’s safety.

Sometimes we will initially have one set-up in mind, but pre-sale numbers will cause us to change the seating arrangement to either accommodate more people or to bring out more tables for people to sit at if space allows.

The final consideration we are subject to is the wishes of the artist which we do not know until s/he/they arrive. We have had several occasions where the artist tells us that they would rather have a different arrangement and we are bound by our contract to follow out those requests.

Does the Mystic Theatre have food and a bar?

There is a full premium bar in the lobby of the theatre which opens up for service from the lobby and the inside of the theatre (however during sit-down or quieter shows only the lobby side is open). Drinks may also be purchased from next door at McNear’s Restaurant and brought over however at the door the door staff will require that you pour your drink into a plastic glass (If you let the bartenders at the restaurant know you’re taking it into the theatre they will make it in plastic). With the safety of our guests in mind, there are no glass bottles or cups allowed in the theatre under any circumstances.

Food is available in the Mystic Theatre. We suggest that you secure a seat in the theatre before ordering food as it can be difficult to eat standing up!

Can I bring my camera into the Mystic?

At load-in our hospitality manager checks in with the band’s tour manager to find out what the band’s policy on photography is. Our entire security and door staff is notified of this policy so that they may enforce it. Some bands say absolutely no cameras while others say cameras are okay, just no flash photography. We suggest that you ask the door staff upon entering the theatre as to whether or not you may take pictures. This way you will not have to deal with it during the show.

I want to rent the Mystic Theatre for a private event. How do I go about doing that?

If you are having a private event (wedding reception, class reunion, meeting, expo, etc) and you would like to speak to our event’s coordinator, you can phone 707.765.2121 during business hours and speak to Rachel Smith, our event’s coordinator. You can also reach her by email at banquets@mcnears.com.

If you are a promoter and are interested in renting the Mystic for your own production, you will need to call 707.765.9211 or email mcnears@aol.com and speak to Ken O’Donnell.

I have a band and really want to play at the Mystic! Who do I talk to?

We do most all of our booking internally for our national acts. Local and smaller bands can contact Shiela Groves with Notable Talent at 1.800.853.6683. Sheila’s email is notablet@aol.com and the URL for her site is www.notabletalent.com. Make sure that you send a promo-pack before phoning as she will tell you that you need to do that first before any consideration is given to your act.
