"Roy Rogers means the modern master in the art of slide guitar...His versatility with the technique is nothing short of astonishing." ~ All Music Guide

Nevada City, California - A stellar career enjoyed by few guitarists of our time, award winning producer and slide guitar virtuoso Roy Rogers is releasing "Best of Two." This re-issue is a compilation of 18 songs from Rogers' favorite releases of the 1990's - "Slide of Hand" and "Slide Zone" recorded during his years at Capitol Nashville/Liberty Records.

"Rogers is both a sensational and a sensitive blues guitarist - certainly among the finest slide guitarists playing today. His wailing slide guitar sound (and churning rhythms, when needed) mark him and his work as of the highest caliber." - San Francisco Chronicle
Opening the show is Jeffrey Halford and The Healers

The Slackers

The Slackers sound is Jamaican rock n roll. While they have been influenced, and even personally taught by Jamaican ska/reggae originators, like the Skatalites and the Upsetters (Original backing band for the Wailers), the band sees its music through an American lens. This band is equally appreciative of old blues, 60s soul, rock, and Rnb as it is of reggae, rocksteady, dub, and Ska.

with Deals Gone Bad. What do you get when you mix the chugging rhythms of Jamaica, the energy and emotion of American Motown, and the overthe-top pub/rock of the Pogues? Now in their 14th year, Deal’s Gone Bad is touring extensively with its strongest and most consistent line-up in its history. Deal’s Gone Bad shows are a combination of soul rave-up and island dance party, with the force and energy of any punk band worth their salt.

Good Vibez Presents Rebelution

Rebelution first united in Santa Barbara, California, built from a wide array of musical backgrounds. With Reggae as the focus, the group set out to create a fresh and vibrant sound which they dub California Reggae. The band released their highly anticipated full-length album in June of 2007 and just weeks after its release, "Courage to Grow" became one of the most downloaded Reggae albums on iTunes. By the end of the year, it had been awarded the iTunes Editors Choice: Best Reggae Album 2007.

"Apparently, California Reggae is hot. Stemming from a foundation of local support, Rebelution soared into iTunes Reggae Top 10 (album downloads), amongst some lofty company. Lofty like Bob, Stephen, and Damian Marley." -- Santa Barbara News-Press

"If you love Bob Marley, Sublime, and Jack Johnson and you're a regular on the State Street scene, then chances are you're already crazy about Rebelution. Their combination of reggae, hip-hop, and rock have made them a favorite of music lovers all over town."-- The Santa Barbara Independent

Marshall Tucker Band

Doors 7:00pm/Show 8:00pm    $30

The Next Adventure, MTB’s 23rd original album, is all over the musical road map. That’s fitting for the band that has never been afraid to strut their musical influences. Several old friends like Paul Hornsby, Ace Allen and Tony Heatherly, make appearances. The creature comforts that make this album feel like home includes four songs written by founding members Toy Caldwell and George McCorkle. Each song is a musical odyssey because complexity and intrigue has been added to MTB’s signature sound as pedal steel, fiddle, classical guitar, mandolin, and dobro are all used to add body and depth to the songs. The result – a classic MTB album.

MTB’s core sound hasn’t changed all that much, but it’s evolved immensely. And after being around for almost 35 years, it should! Doug’s voice is more complex than it was when he was younger. It’s not as bold or brash as it once was, like Jack Daniels, but has more character, like a fine, well aged single barrel whiskey (think Black Maple Hill). It’s as incredible as it ever was, just in a different way.

An Evening with
Papa Doo Run Run

Saturday, May 17th
Doors 7:00pm/Show 8:00pm    $30
    21+over

Formed in 1965, the now legendary California band, PAPA DOO RUN RUN, quickly discovered their forte - they sounded like the Beach Boys! That sound led them to surf music legends, Jan & Dean, and from 1976-80 Papa toured North America with the duo. In the 80s Papa graduated from J&D to the Beach Boys, and toured and recorded with members of that band throughout the next 2 decades. The group also had an unprecedented 15-year run as the "Celebrity House Band" at Disneyland from 1975-90!

Papa’s 1975 Top 40 hit “Be True To Your School” reached No. 1 in California. Their ground breaking CD “California Project” (1985) exploded onto the Billboard Hot 100 Chart at no. 17 and earned the band their second Gold Record and a Grammy Nomination. Additionally, Papa Doo Run Run appeared in, and recorded the soundtrack album for the CBS-TV movie “Deadman’s Curve”. The band currently has 7 CD releases and a full length DVD.

That quartet, recorded "Legend," a multi-platinum seller that included two hit singles, Young's "Crazy Love," which charted to number one for six weeks, and Cotton's "Heart of the Night," which was also a top 20 hit for the band.

Peter Rowan & his Free Mexican Air Force
Plus South Austin Jug Band

A Grammy-award winning musician, Peter Rowan's career has spanned from Sea Train to Old & In the Way to numerous solo and ensemble projects with Don Edwards, David Grisman, Richard Greene and others. He is a soulful singer and a poignant songwriter. He began his professional career playing guitar, singing lead vocals and co-writing as a member of the Bluegrass Boys, led by the founding father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe.

Let’s just get it out of the way right now: There’s no jug-playing in the South Austin Jug Band. And the bluegrass connotation that name carries should be spilled down the drain along with any other moonshine-preconceived notions. Sure, there’s fiddle, mandolin, an upright bass … but there’s also drumming, occasional electric guitar and even digital looping. On tour for the band’s latest album, Strange Invitation, gets its title from a lyric in Mr. Hansen’s 1997 charmer, “Jackass,” the only cover olete with horns, and a blues number.

Junior Brown

Thursday, June 5th
Doors 7:00pm/Show 8:00pm    $22
    18+over

You wouldn't think a country guitar player would by any stretch of the imagination get compared to Jimi Hendrix on a regular basis. But for Junior Brown, one of the most left-field traditionalists alive, that comparison crops up again and again. With his trusty "guit-steel" in tow-a double-necked contraption that combines an electric guitar with a lap steel-the uncannily talented guitarist melds country with surf music, rock, and rootsy Southern-flavored tunefulness. Brown's new album, Mixed Bag, is due out this summer on Curb, an appropriate title given his unique and constant melding of different musical styles. The cuts, most of which are originals, include some of his best ballads, a riverboat shuffle, an old New Orleans jazz song replete with horns, and a blues number.

Ten Years After

Doors 7:00pm/Show 8:00pm    $25
    21+over

In 1967, Leo Lyons, Ric Lee, Chick Churchill together with Alvin Lee, formed Ten Years After and became one of the biggest names and the most explosive quartet on the world stage. Their now legendary encore, "I'm Going Home" performed at The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in August 1969, was captured on film and exposed their jazz, blues, rock amalgam. Their ten-minute appearance in the film is an acknowledged highlight and established Ten Years After a place in the rock history.

Ten Years After will play most of their past "hits", but it will not be an oldies band riding around on the cash cow of past successes. It has taken up the reins and is riding into the future. Joe Gooch is fully conversant with all of Ten Years After's previous triumphs, but the fact is he has a distinct personality that breathes new life into the band's performance and helps forge a new direction with this highly respected team of legendary musicians.

After a two year break, international touring artists The Waifs returned to the local spotlight for an amazing year back behind the mics.
Their current record Sun Dirt Water rocketed into the ARIA charts at # 2 week of release and every show they played sold out, reigniting the fires that burn within Aussies for their favorite folk rockers.
Vikki Thorn also clocked up another song writing gong, taking out the WAM Award for Song Of The Year, for her hit single Sun Dirt Water.

“To see the Simpson sisters on stage – Donna urging on the music with tambourine in hand, Vikki pouring out her soul through her harmonica – was truly a gift. The sublime guitar of Josh Cunningham, standing in between his two long-time band mates, stood testament to the strong musical influences gained from a blues-based trip. This was a Waifs gig that was truly unforgettable – one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time – and proof that the trio is at a creative peak.” Sun Herald
